Still Waiting.....
I had hoped to be making my next blog entry after we had received the go ahead from our bank for the construction loan. Well, that hasn't happened yet, but in the meantime we've had a few more developments. Since the point of the blog is to inform the reader of the steps we are going through, here is what has gone on lately.....
Gas line location
In anticipation of digging soon, I contacted the gas company so that they could mark where their existing lines are. We have three gas wells on the farm, and they are interconnected, so it's crucial to know where those lines are to avoid hitting them while putting in the underground lines for electric and cable. I got a call back from them the next day I believe, and it worked out they were going to be in my area. We went over the possible places where digging would occur and where it might cross existing gas lines. They marked some areas with spray paint, and then came back about a week later to actually dig. They located the lines and then dug down just far enough to expose them so that there's no question on where they are.
Subdivision Plans
I called the county planning and development office yesterday and was informed that our plans had been approved. Later that day I picked up the plans at the office, and then stopped at the county Recorder's office to have the new lot recorded there. Once that was done I stopped at the county's 911 address assignment office. This office keeps track of where everybody lives so that your house can be located in an emergency. I had to show them on the computer map where the new lot was located and what roadway would be used to access it. After that I was assigned a street address for the new house - 150 Stringer Road. Sharon was very excited at this news because that street number was the one she was hoping we would be assigned - she thought I had requested the number actually, but I hadn't. We will next need to contact our attorney to have a new deed drawn up.
Insurance
The new home address was the missing piece of the puzzle for our construction insurance. We're required to have insurance to cover liability issues with the construction crews, theft of material, fire, damage, etc. I called our insurance guy and supplied the information needed to complete the policy.
Closing Papers
We received papers in the mail last week from the company who will handle our closing. We filled those out, scanned them and emailed them back. The company has to make sure that there are no liens or other claims to the property, among other things they do. Once we hear from the bank *sigh* we can call to schedule a date and time for closing. They are very flexible and can send somebody to your house to do the paperwork if you like.
Cable
I mentioned in my previous blog that the guy from Comcast stopped out and said that it wouldn't cost anything for us to get a cable line to the new house other than us digging the trench. Well, it turned out that he was wrong. I talked to another person who is actually involved in doing the work, and he said they will be glad to run cables to our new house after the ditch is dug - after I put a check for $4300 in his hand. Ouch.
So that's the status of things now. We're eager to get started and a little frustrated with the slowness of the process. We want to get the excavation part of things finished before the weather stops cooperating with us. Even after the loan is closed the power company will be another potential bottleneck. The positive part of it all is that we are not under a specific timetable to get out of our present residence, and the delay gives us more time to accumulate monies for the project.
Until next time.....
